The School of Visual Arts New York City (SVA NYC) is a private for-profit art school in New York City. It was founded in 1947 and is a member of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design.

This school was started by Silas H. Rhodes and Burne Hogarth in 1947 as the Cartoonists and Illustrators School; it had three teachers and 35 students,[6] most of whom were World War II veterans who had a large part of their tuition underwritten by the U.S. government's G.I. Bill. It was renamed the School of Visual Arts in 1956 and offered its first degrees in 1972. In 1983, it introduced a Master of Fine Arts in painting, drawing and sculpture.

    Applicants must upload their portfolio to the Graduate Admissions SlideRoom account. To create an account and for further instructions, visit the SlideRoom Portal. SlideRoom will allow you to create an inventory of works with the following information for each file: title, date, medium, dimensions or running time, and optional notes. The portfolio requirements for SlideRoom are: 1. Do not submit PDF file format imagery onto SlideRoom or combine multiple images and text onto a single submission file. Applications submitted in PDF will not be reviewed. 2. 20 still images in JPEG format, not to exceed 5MB each in file size. 3.Videos should be uploaded as either MOV or MP4 files, not to exceed 250MB each in size and be under 5 minutes in length. You may also submit linked media files to YouTube or Vimeo. 4.Applicants are not required to submit both still-image and video work. If your main medium is video, please submit 4–5 video samples. If you work with both still images and video, please include a sampling of both. Financial.
