The University of Vermont (UVM), officially titled as University of Vermont and State Agricultural College, is a public land-grant research university in Burlington, Vermont. Founded in 1791, the university is the oldest in Vermont and the fifth-oldest in New England, making it among the oldest in the United States. It is one of the original eight Public Ivies.
UVM is organized into ten schools, including seven undergraduate colleges, an honors college, a graduate college, and the Robert Larner College of Medicine. Vermont's largest hospital complex, the University of Vermont Medical Center, has its primary facility on campus. Regarded for its progressivism, UVM has a history of student-led activism. Considered one of the most sustainable campuses in the United States, the university has committed to carbon neutrality by 2030. In 2022, the university attracted $263 million in research and development funding. It is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity"
