A minimum of two academic letters of recommendation (maximum of three) from professors who have taught you in class, or from professors who have direct experience with your academic ability and potential, are strongly preferred. If you have been out of school for a period of time, you may substitute letters from employers or others who are well-acquainted with your intellectual ability and academic ability.

The personal statement is important because it allows you to describe why you wish to pursue an LL.M. degree or Graduate Certificate in Air and Space Law at the University of Mississippi School of Law, and how doing so connects with what you have done in the past and what you plan to do in the future. The personal statement enables you to demonstrate how you can contribute your talents and experiences to the Program in Air and Space Law, and it gives you the opportunity to elaborate on any noteworthy academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and business or civic experiences. Successful applicants have also reflected on meaningful personal and intellectual interests, and any challenges and disadvantages met and overcome.

This thesis proposal should be specific, well-framed, and original. Vague expressions of interest in a general subject area will be given little weight by the Admissions Committee. This statement should briefly explain the question you propose to research, why the topic is worthy of scholarly investigation, and why your background qualifies you to investigate the topic. Please note that this is merely a proposal, and you will be able to change your thesis topic upon admission into the LL.M. program.
