Choose one of the following prompts and write an essay of no more than 350 words. Your response should thoughtfully reflect on your experiences, values, and aspirations in relation to nursing. As you develop your essay, reference What UMSON Looks for in a BSN Applicant for guidance on key themes and expectations. Describe a situation where you demonstrated leadership within a professional organization, community service activity, educational, or healthcare setting. How did this experience influence your personal and professional development and prepare you for success in nursing school? Tell a story about work, school, or community-based experience that influenced the way you view health and/or healthcare. Describe the experience and how you used one or more of the following attributes/skills to manage the experience: leadership, organization, community engagement, determination, multilingual ability, adaptability, innovation, passion, and/or empathy. Discuss how the experience prepared you for success in nursing school. For applicants who don’t meet the minimum GPA requirement, we highly encourage you to provide additional information regarding your academic history by submitting a supplemental essay in your admissions portal. In a thoughtful and concise essay (no more than 350 words), please respond to each of the following questions. Be honest and reflective in sharing the factors that contributed to your current academic standing, the steps you've taken to improve, and how you plan to achieve success in the nursing program. Your responses will help the admissions team better understand your readiness and commitment to succeed in our program. What challenges contributed to your GPA falling below the minimum requirement for admission? What specific steps have you taken to strengthen your academic performance or demonstrate your ability to succeed in rigorous coursework? If admitted, what strategies will you use to ensure your success in the nursing program?

An official transcript from every institution previously attended or currently attending must be submitted in a sealed envelope, as prepared by the sending institution.

Your recommendation must come from a professor who can attest to your academic performance. Only the first recommendation received will be considered.
