You must obtain the appropriate number of references in support of your application.If you are currently studying/have recently studied, the referees must be familiar with your academic work, preferably from the institution at which you have recently studied/currently study. If you are in employment, you may if you wish include a relevant work reference if a second reference is required. If your circumstances are different, please contact us for further advice before applying. Please ensure you have the permission of a nominated referee before you supply their details to us and that they are happy to supply a reference for you. You have two choices when submitting a reference: 1.You can give the details of your referee, which must include an email address, and we will contact them directly by email on submission of your application. Your referee will be asked to log on to the online University of Brighton Referee Portal to submit your reference directly to us. 2.If you already have a copy of a formal signed reference, you can attach an electronic scanned copy here. In both cases, we may ask for an original paper copy of any reference at a later date.

This is your opportunity to convey your motivation and enthusiasm for your chosen course and to demonstrate your suitability for your intended studies at the University of Brighton. Your personal statement, which must be entered into the box below, should include examples that draw on relevant work, voluntary or study experiences and illustrate the transferable skills you will use when you become a student (for example, time management, project management, communication skills and problem solving). Your statement should include: Why you have chosen the course and why you have chosen the University of Brighton. How you will apply your current skills, knowledge and experience to the course. Success and achievements that are relevant to the course and show your aptitude for study. How the course fits into your career plans and ambitions. We recommend writing your personal statement in another editor (e.g. MS Word).

Please state whether you have provisionally discussed your proposed research topic with a member of University of Brighton staff. Please also state whether you have identified a supervisor for your proposed study and, if so, please give the name of that person. If you are applying with your own research proposal, in addition to the brief synopsis above, you are required to attach a detailed research proposal (for detailed guidance, please refer to the appropriate department webpage before submitting your application). You should cover: The theoretical background to the proposed research and its relationship to previous work in the relevant field/s. The significance of the proposed research and the contribution to knowledge that you envisage making. The likely methodological approach and why it is appropriate to the aims of the project. A proposed timeline for the project. How your proposed research complements your previous experience and anticipates possible future research work.
