You must submit two references with your application, one of which must be an academic reference and preferably from your most recent studies.

Applicants will also need to submit a personal statement, which should clearly indicate their level of understanding in power engineering, as well as demonstrating their strong interest in and commitment to the field. You should also use your personal statement to outline your motivation for your chosen area of study. Try to answer questions such as: 1) Why are you interested in studying at Edinburgh? 2) Why have you chosen this particular programme? 3) If you are studying for career development, what are your career plans and how will your studies support these? 4) You should include any relevant experience or training in your personal statement. This could be paid or volunteer work, or other qualifications not stated elsewhere. Your personal statement should be no more than 3,500 characters (approximately 500 words) in length.

You should submit a research proposal that outlines your project's aims, context, process and product/outcome. Although we welcome perceptive proposals on traditional subjects, using established methodologies, we are particularly looking for applicants prepared to challenge and expand the traditional boundaries of the discipline. The research proposal is a necessary and important part of your application. It should identify the objectives and scope of your research, and the stages necessary to complete it. The word count for your research proposal is 1,000 words.
