The vignette below and then respond to the questions posed. (500 words or less) You have settled into the M.S. in Applied Psychology-Counseling Psychology program and have done well academically in the first few semesters. You have received some constructive as well as supportive feedback about your clinical training work and feel like the faculty and staff care about your professional development. As you enter your second year in the program, you begin working with clients at a clinical site and start to get some challenging feedback from your site supervisor. Your supervisor notes problems with timeliness and completeness of your clinical documentation from your sessions, issues surrounding how you are managing boundaries with clients, receptivity to supervisory feedback, and issues with your cultural awareness and cultural humility with clients and other clinicians. You are working with many clients who are culturally different from you, such as clients who have different religious beliefs, sexual and gender identities, races and ethnicities, nation of origin, socioeconomic status, age, and ability considerations. You really want to help these clients yet are finding it very challenging. For example, you keep having a hard time remembering to use the correct pronouns for your 16-year-old Nigerian client. In addition to your site supervisor’s feedback, your practicum instructor is giving similar feedback to you, and you are worried that the supervisors don’t really understand you or how hard you are working. You are worried about how you are going to improve and whether you will be able to continue at site and in the program. 1.What reactions might you have in this situation? What might you think about doing in response to this feedback, both in terms of your interactions with others as well as regarding your own self-care? 2.How would you navigate these cultural issues with clients and others? How might your own values and beliefs, whatever they are, come into play? What does it mean to be culturally responsive and sensitive?
