Ohio University is a public research university in Athens, Ohio. The first university chartered by an Act of Congress and the first to be chartered in Ohio, it was chartered in 1787 by the Congress of the Confederation and subsequently approved for the territory in 1802 and state in 1804, opening for students in 1809. Ohio University is the oldest university in Ohio and among the oldest public universities in the United States. As of fall 2020, the university's total enrollment at Athens was slightly more than 18,000, while the all-campus enrollment was just over 28,000.

    Three letters of recommendation on official letterhead submitted through the Graduate College’s online system. It is preferred that these letters are written by former professors or research supervisors who can speak to the applicant’s academic and research abilities. A letter from a work supervisor is also acceptable. Letters from peers or co-workers are not acceptable. All letters must be submitted directly by the writers, and not by the applicant. The letters should address the applicant’s potential for conducting graduate level research and succeeding in graduate level coursework. Although three letters are required, the admissions committee may begin reviewing an application as soon as two letters are received by the Graduate College.

    Resume or CV, which lists every school attended as well as the GPA obtained at each institution. The resume should also list research experience, teaching experience, publications, and other important work or academic experiences.

  • Credential Evaluation

    Ohio University accepts international credential evaluations from applicants who have attended colleges/universities outside of the United States. Credential evaluations must be completed by an evaluation company that is a member of NACES. Credential evaluations must include a course-by-course report and an assessment of the U.S. equivalency of the academic credit. Evaluations and verified copies of the academic documents used in the assessment must be sent by the evaluation service directly to the Ohio University Graduate College. This evaluation is considered an official transcript.
