The baccalaureate or equivalent transcript should clearly indicate conferral of your undergraduate degree. If you are currently completing your baccalaureate, the transcript should show your academic record through your most current term of study. The transcript you scan and upload must be a document that was produced by the registrar. The document must include one or more of the following features: the registrar's signature, the registrar's seal, an institutional watermark, or it must be printed on official institutional paper. A document you personally print from your academic history does not meet this requirement. The Graduate School requires applicants who are not native English speakers to submit official TOEFL or IELTS score results. The TOEFL/IELTS requirement is waived if your baccalaureate or master’s degree was (or will be) completed at an institution where the language of instruction is English. If it does not clearly state on the transcript that the language of instruction is English, then please upload supporting documentation on institutional letterhead along with your transcript. DO NOT send copies of your transcripts to Graduate Enrollment Services at this time. If you are offered admission, you will be required to provide official transcript(s).

GSAS requires three letters of recommendation. Recommenders should be chosen from people who know your academic qualifications and are most familiar with your former studies, research interests, or work — preferably in the field in which you expect to study. If you have been out of school for some time, a letter from an employer or supervisor should be provided. We do not accept letters of recommendation via Interfolio and other credentials services.

In a concisely written statement, please describe your past and present work as it relates to your intended field of study, your educational objectives, and your career goals. In addition, please include your intellectual and professional reasons for choosing your field of study and why your studies/research can best be done at the Graduate School of Arts and Science at NYU. The statement should not exceed two double-spaced pages. Please proof the document carefully. Once you have submitted your application, you cannot make revisions or corrections.
