Masters in Design Engineering

A degree (a bachelor’s or equivalent degree) in design, engineering, sciences, social sciences, or a related field

You are required to upload transcripts from all colleges and universities from which you have earned credit or will or have received a degree. Make sure the scanned version is legible and oriented properly. Uploaded transcripts should include your name, school name, degree name, major, degree date if awarded, and a semester-by-semester course breakdown with corresponding grades.

All applicants are required to submit a response to the following question: Harvard GSD has long recognized the importance of enrolling a diverse student body. How will the life experiences that shape who you are today enable you to contribute to the Graduate School of Design? Limit response to 300 words.

Applicants are required to obtain three letters of recommendation, ideally at least two from college or university instructors. If you have been out of school for awhile, you may request letters from employers or other persons in a position to evaluate your professional abilities and academic potential.

1.What attracted you to the MDE program? 2.Please describe some of your professional and/or project work experiences, particularly any experience collaborating with others. 3.What distinctive perspective, experience, personal attributes and/or knowledge do you believe that you will contribute to the MDE program? 4.Please describe and evaluate a project (ex. hybrid vehicles, laptops, electoral systems / voting machines, recycling, etc.) that combines design and engineering. How does it bring design and engineering together? What other disciplines and approaches does it draw on? How would you critique, revise, or improve it?

Applicants should provide three to five examples of your work, design, and/or research that are most relevant to the MDE program. Examples may be professional or academic and may encompass designed, researched, and/or actualized work. Projects may include but are not limited to, products, mechanical systems, buildings, functional materials, electronic systems, organizational systems, and recommendations regarding processes. Demonstration of technical literacy and innovation is desirable. Projects should be submitted in PDF format and include a description of the project as well as supporting documentation, which may consist of images or a video

Upload a resume that includes: full and part-time employment, education, fellowships, extra-curricular university activities, community service, honors, awards, professional registration and societies, publications, avocations, hobbies, and travel. If you served in the military, indicate rank on entry and rank on separation. Please provide a complete employment and educational history, including information about any gaps. While brevity is valued, please do not feel limited to one page.
