The Graduate School requires three letters of recommendation by persons well qualified to speak from first-hand knowledge about the applicant's potential for graduate study. All letters should comment on an applicant’s ability to do research and perform in the program’s required coursework. Letters from research supervisors are especially helpful. Occasionally, a student may wish to request more than three letters, but no more than five.

Any awards you have received or publications in which you have been published.

In lieu of uploading a personal statement, the program asks that you provide a response to the following questions. Please address each question in fewer than 600 words. 1. What motivates you to pursue a PhD? How does pursuing a PhD further your career goals? 2. Please give examples of one or two experiences that have prepared you to pursue a PhD (e.g. academic, professional, and/or research experiences). 3. What are your research interests at Brown? Why are you applying to the Brown BME graduate program? 4. How do you see the role of scientists and engineers in the community? Please draw upon your own past experiences and/or future plans to serve society. 5. How will you contribute as a scientist and engineer to the advancement of society? Please draw upon your personal experiences.
